Social History — C. 1939
Postcard
This picture postcard was one in a series published by Valentine & Sons during World War II for parents to send to child evacuees. This example includes a colour drawing of wo children - a boy and a girl - playing on the beach with the verse ' How are You My little Evacuee? I hope you are happy by the sea/ I love your letters/ Please do send another/ Love and Kisses/ from your Mother'. The postcard is unused. The images of evacuation depicted on this series of postcards offer an idealistic view of evacuation, as promoted by the Government and masked the reality of life of many child evacuees.
