Enamel box with portrait inside lid of Robert Walpole.
Rectangular with gilded mounts, the lid printed in brown with 'Laocóon and the Wooden horse of Troy', the interior printed with a portrait of Henry Pelham, the four sides and the base with an extensive diaper pattern within rococo scrolls also printed in brown.
The print on the lid is after Ravenet. A large plaque printed with the same scene, excavated from the Battersea site, currently in the Victoria and Albert Museum, is illustrated by Judith Crouch, York House, Battersea: finds from the Excavation of the Enamel Manufactory site, ECC Trans, Vol 19, pt 1, p 33
