Decorative arts — 18th century
Box, patch box
Patch box made of metal decorated with enamel and gilt. The box is an oval cylinder that tapers slightly towards the base. It is coated on both the inside and outside with white enamel, decorated with gilt patterns and decorative frames on the outside. On the main base of the box it depicts two pastoral scenes in full colour, while on the lid is a classically-inspired interior with a couple by an open door. The rim, hinge and handle of the box are bare metal, incised with decoration. The surface of the enamel near the rim is worn away in some places.
