Drinking glass, commemorative beaker
This glass was produced to commemorate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II on 2 June 1953. A range of mass-produced and limited edition souvenirs were made. The government's decision to forbid the importation of foreign commemorative ware and lift the purchase tax on souvenirs gave a tremendous boost to the struggling post-war economy and helped many shops and businesses, including Selfridges, achieve record profits for the year.
