Gauntlet, regalia gauntlet
This pair of dark blue ceremonial gauntlet cuffs with gold wire embroidery and fringe were worn by members of the Masonic London Grand Rank. The 'London Grand Rank' is an honour given to London Freemasons who have contributed to the aims of the organisation over their Masonic careers.
Freemasonary is one of the world's oldest fraternal societies, concerned with moral and social values. Its members wear regalia - usually an apron and collar. The cuffs may be either worn or converted into charity collecting bagsas a reminder of past traditions and a practical aid to the charitable giving of the organisation. Each cuff has a circular embroidered gold wire badge of office marked 'London' bearing the symbol of the London Grand Rank.
