Printed Ephemera — 1906
Band of Hope Examination
The London Diocesan exam board set this Band of Hope examination paper in 1906. The Band of Hope was set up in 1847 as a temperance organisation for working-class children. All members took a pledge of total abstinence and were taught the 'evils of drink'.
This intermediate exam paper was prepared for members between the ages of 10 and 14. There are 11 questions concerning the effects of alcohol and the benefits of abstinence.
