Crime and Punishment? Kiranjit Ahluwalia
This handbill announces a public meeting in June 1992 to discuss battered women and the Criminal Justice system. Kiranjit Ahluwalia is a Sikh woman sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering her violent husband in 1989. Aided by this campaign by the Southall Black Sisters, Ahluwalia’s original conviction was reduced to manslaughter. She was freed from prison in 1992. The Southall Black Sisters is an organisation which provides an advice, campaigning and resource centre for Black women experiencing violence and abuse
