Printed Ephemera — 1926-1931
An Indian Rice Field
Poster with a lithograph of an Indian rice field by the artist Gerald Spencer Pryse. It was issued by the Empire Marketing Board, who commissioned images like these to advertise goods produced in countries belonging to the British Empire, such as India. It hoped in this way to influence British consumers to buy these goods. A total of 800 different poster designs was produced between 1926 and 1931 and these were displayed on hoardings across Britain.
