Men browsing a stall selling motor parts at Caledonian market
A stall selling motor spares at the Caledonian Market, 1935. Originally a live cattle market, the Caledonian had by the 1930s become the largest street market in London, selling a vast array of new and second-hand goods. It was said that here you could buy all the parts needed to make a complete car! After the Second World War the market relocated to Bermondsey to become the New Caledonian Market, specialising in antiques and collectables.
