Lamps for sale at Caledonian market
All sorts of lamps for sale at Caledonian Market, 1935. Originally a live cattle market, the Caledonian had by the 1930s become the largest street market in London, selling a vast array of new and second-hand goods. After the Second World War it relocated to Bermondsey to become the New Caledonian Market, specialising in antiques and collectables. In the background is the Caledonian Clock Tower, built in the 1850s, which is all that remains of the original cattle market
