Piccadilly Circus
The east side of Piccadilly Circus east looking towards Coventry Street, c. 1930. The London Pavilion, in the centre of the view, was built as a music hall in the 1880s and later became a theatre, and then a cinema. The lamps on the right mark the location of an underground public toilet, which was later replaced by the circular concourse of Piccadilly Underground Station.
Here, in 1927, the Pavillion is still a theatre, showing Charles B. Cochran's review 'One Dam Thing After Another' with music by Rogers and Hart including the hit 'My Heart Stood Still' sung by Jessie Matthews in one of her early starring roles.
