Printed Ephemera — 1909-1910
Who are the People?
Leaflet issued by the Women's Freedom League as part of their General Election campaign of January 1910. This was leaflet number 5 in a series of similar general election leaflets, that intended to put forward the case for female suffrage and urge voters to only vote for candidates who supported 'Votes for Women'. This leaflet, headed 'Who are the People?' refers to the rejection by the House of Lords of Lloyd George's 1909 budget that caused the 1910 election. The leaflet argues that although both the Liberal Government and the Lords argue they are both appealing to and defending the people, they are in effect only representing one half of the people, that is men, as women are not entitled to vote.
