Why the Lords Threw Out the Budget
Leaflet issued by the Women's Freedom League as part of their General Election campaign of January 1910. This was leaflet number 3 in a series of similar general election leaflets, that intended to put forward the case for female suffrage and urge voters to only vote for candidates who supported 'Votes for Women'. This leaflet, headed 'Why the Lords Threw out the Budget' refers to the rejection by the House of Lords of Lloyd George's 1909 budget that caused the 1910 election. The leaflet argues that both the Liberal Government and the Lords have violated the Constitution - the Liberals by refusing to give women the vote and the Lords by throwing out the Budget.
