Printed Ephemera — 1910

Menu for a dinner held at the Hotel Cecil on Tuesday 5 July 1910, it is printed on card surmounted by a colour image of crossed union jack and Japanese flags and details the food and beverages to be served.
Included in the eleven course meal is a fish course of 'Darne de saumon, sauce princiere. Salad de Cocombres', for main 'Selle d'agneau. Petit pois. Pommes nouvelles.' and to end 'Dessert. Cafe'. Amongst the drinks offered to guests were an 1896 Chateau Mouton Rothschild red wine to accompany the main courses and, later, an 1875 Ottard's Grande Fine Champagne.
Opened in 1896 the Hotel Cecil was a spacious building, comprising of 800 bedrooms. Its Grand Hall could seat 600 people for dinner and its Victoria Hall could accommodate 500 dancers. The Cecil was demolished in 1930.
