A nanny and her charge at the Round Pond, Kensington Gardens
A nanny and her charge feeding the ducks and swans at the Round Pond in Kensington Park Gardens, c. 1935. One of 25 photographs by Humphrey Spender showing scenes of working class life in London in the 1930's. Spender was influenced by the idea that many of the social problems in poor urban areas were due to sub-standard housing. He felt that the right architectural principles might solve some of the problems he saw.
