Nichiren Shoshu Buddhists chant for world peace, Hammersmith Bridge Road
Photographic print showing Nichiren Shoshu Buddhists chanting for world peace in a room on Hammersmith Bridge Road, photographed by Chris Schwartz. A small group of men and women are kneeling on the floor of the room, their hands clasped, with a view of the bridge through the window. This type of Buddhism is based on the teachings of a Japanese fisherman, Nichiren, who became a Buddhist monk in the 13th century. It gained many converts in Japan after World War II.
