Printed Ephemera — 1947
Hue and Cry
Edward Bawden designed this poster for the Ealing Studios film 'Hue and Cry'.
Filming at the Ealing Studios began at the turn of the 20th century. 'Hue and Cry' was the first of scriptwriter T E B Clarke's Ealing Comedies about a group of London schoolboys who outwit a gang of crooks. The celebrated climax of the film has hundreds of boys converging on a bombsite.
Bawden was recruited by Ealing Studios for his experience in lettering. He was also a well-known printer and watercolourist. His poster combines both lithograph and linocut printing techniques.
