Hit back with your war savings
The National Savings Committee issued this Second World War poster. Designed by the artist Farr, the poster encourages the British public to buy National Savings stamps.
The National Savings movement was established during the First World War to reduce government borrowing to finance the war. The British public were encouraged to support the war effort by acquiring Savings Stamps and supporting other government savings initiatives. The success of the scheme enabled it to thrive in times of peace as well as war, and National Savings were still available until the 1960s.
