Photograph of suffragette Harriett Kerr (front row, middle), attending a demonstration and wearing a Votes for Women sash. Harriett had her own Secretarial business which she gave up to become General Manager for the offices of the Women’s Social and Political Union (WSPU) at Clements Inn. In 1912 she was arrested along with a number of other women and charged with conspiracy to cause damage to property. She was found guilty in June 1913 and was sentenced to a 12 month sentence in Holloway prison. She went on hunger strike and was released under the Cat and Mouse Act being rearrested in October. She again went on hunger strike and was again released and rearrested, eventually finishing her sentence by early 1914.
