Londons flames discovered by informations taken before the Committee, appointed to enquire after the burning of the city of London: And after the insolency of the papists, &c. .London, Printed in the year 1667.
The Commons Committee that investigated the cause of the fire presented their evidence to the King on 22 January 1667. The King's Council decided the fire was an accident but the evidence was printed and circulated, causing great anti-Catholic feeling. This is one of the printed reports, entitled 'London Flames Discovered by Information Taken before the Committee Appointed to Enquire after the Burning of the City of London. And after the insolency of the Papists'. The evidence seems to consist mainly of eavesdropped conversations, casual remarks and sightings of mysterious arsonists throwing fireballs. It expresses very well the prevailing prejudices of the time.
