Printed Ephemera — 1845-1880
Card, valentine card
Valentine's card comprising a silver lace paper border with a cotton net central panel. Applied to the centre a coloured paper scrap of a flower arrangement printed 'No time can make me change my love, Or e'er to you inconstant prove'. Also decorated with a gilded oval frame of embossed paper roses and a garland of embossed paper flowers and foliage.
Victorian Valentine's cards like this could be made from commercially-produced papers. Paper lace was a popular card base and printed scraps would be added to adorn and personalise the cards.
