Printed Ephemera — 1912-09-05
Ticket
Ticket of admission to a meeting held at the Royal National Eisteddfod, Wrexham, Wales, Thursday September 5th 1912. The ticket was used by a Suffragette to gain admission to the meeting at which Lloyd George was speaking. At the meeting five Suffragettes, including Kitty Marion heckled Lloyd George and were brutally set upon by vicious crowd. A full report of this incident appears in Votes for Women and notes that all the Suffragettes had handfuls of hair ripped from the roots so violently that blood ran down their faces and one Suffragette was even stabbed in the breast with a knife, although the cut was not serious.
It is known Kitty Marion sat in seat 338, Row 11 Block C so this ticket was used by another of the five Suffragettes. Sitting separately was often a tactic used by Suffragette hecklers to avoid bringing attention to themselves prior to the meeting start.
