Printed Ephemera — 1910-11-10
A Women's Demonstration, Royal Albert Hall, Thursday November 10, 1910
Printed handbill announcing a 'Votes for Women' demonstration to be held on Thursday 10th November 1910 at the Royal Albert Hall. Organised by the Women's Social and Political Union the event included speeches from the Suffragette leaders Emmeline and Christabel Pankhurst and Emmeline Pethick-Lawrence as well as the male MP Gerald A. Arbuthnot and the writer Israel Zangwill who both actively supported female suffrage.
The bill is printed in the purple and green colour scheme of the Women's Social and Political Union and includes Sylvia Pankhurst's female reaper sowing seed logo. The ticket prices printed on the bottom of the flyer indicate that this event was intended to raise much needed funds for the WSPU campaign. During her speech at the meeting Emmeline Pankhurst called for volunteers for 'active service' for the protest due to take place the following week that became known as 'Black Friday'.
