Combat in Manuel
Theatrical souvenir portrait plate printed with a combat scene from the play Manuel between the characters Almorad & Torrismond. The actors names Mr TP Cooke and Mr Wallack have been handwritten in ink on the sheet. Published July 8th 1823. The portrait is partly handcoloured. Such portraits would have been sold plain as theatrical souvenirs for colouring and tinselling at home.
Cooke and Wallack performed together several times, most notably in the stage adaptation of Mary Shelly's book, Frankenstein.
