The Champion in the Coronation
Hand-coloured theatrical souvenir portrait plate printed with an engraving of the Champion on horseback holding aloft the Coronation Glove. Published 'as the Act directs' on July 6th 1821 by W.Clarke the plate relates to the play 'The Coronation' performed to coincide with the Coronation of George IV. Such portraits would have been sold as theatrical souvenirs for colouring and tinselling at home.
