Printed Ephemera — 1908
The Flip-Flap, Franco-British Exhibition, London 1908
Picture postcard of The Flip-Flap ride at White City.
One in a series of 'Giant' postcards produced by Valentine & Sons, official postcard printers for all White City exhibitions. The Flip-Flap was one of the most popular attractions at White City. It comprised two long steel arms, stretched out on opposite sides of a central base. At the end of each arm was a platform that could accommodate 50 people. The arms rose from the ground to a height of 200 feet (over 60 metres) giving a spectacular view of the exhibition grounds. To the left of the postcard can be seen Webb's Glass Works. Sponsored by Thomas Webb & Sons of the Dennis Glass Works, Stourbridge, this exhibit gave demonstrations of glass making, including wine glasses.
