Printed Ephemera — 1933
Reception by the Corporation of the City of London
A programme for the reception at the Guildhall of His Majesty the King of Iraq which took place on Wednesday 21 June 1933. Printed black on cream card, the front of the programme depicts the interior of the Guildhall along with two images of aeroplanes flying over the City. Inside guests are informed of the menu and the programme of music for the event.
Guests were served a total of nine courses; Clear Turtle; Casserole of Soles Chabilis; Chicken in Aspic; Asparagus, Sauce Mousseline; Baron of Beef, Baked Potatoes; Orange Jelly, Maids of Honour; Bombe Batavia, Gaufrettes; Dessert; and Coffee.
The King of Iraq at this time was King Faisal I who, during his reign, did much to forge a friendship with Britain. In 1930 he secured a treaty which allowed Iraq independence and by 1932 Iraq had become a member of the League of Nations.
