Printed Ephemera — 1913
The Daily Herald
The Daily Herald, June 18th 1913. On the front cover is a full page cartoon headed 'England 1913'. The cartoon represents two women: one a suffragette prisoner weakened by hunger strike and force feeding entitled (Unwomanly), the other a chain worker from the Cradley Heath area holding aloft a hammer captioned 'Womanly'. The ten week strike attracted huge publicity and wide support and resulted in the introduction of a minimum wage for the female workers.
