Procession promoting a Suffragette meeting to be held at the Albert Hall, October, 1908. The image probably refers to a mass meeting held at the Albert Hall on 29th October 1908 five days after the sentencing of Christabel and Emmeline Pankhurst and Flora Drummond to three months imprisonment. The meeting timed to attract mass support and publicity for the campaign was a hugely successful event and raised £3000 for the Women's Social and Political Union 'war chest'.

Poster parades announcing meetings and demonstrations were an effective way of attracting publicity and greater public awareness for the campaign.

The driver of the car is likely to be Bill Ropley who worked for Fred Pethick Lawrence in various roles for over 40 years including chauffeur and gardener. From 1909 the WSPU leaders used an official, specially commissioned car with a roof.
