Postcard, photographic postcard

Photographic postcard depicting the Suffragette leaders Elsa Gye, Miss Keegan, Mrs Martel, Mrs Massey, Emmeline Pankhurst and Ada Flatman campaigning at the Haverfordwest by-election.
Campaigning at by-elections was a key policy of the Women's Social and Political Union. Paid WSPU Organisers were sent to constituencies to rent temporary premises from where they co-ordinated campaigns to urge voters to 'keep the Liberal candidate out'. Guest appearances from Suffragette leaders attracted large crowds and energised the by-election campaign. Unfortunately, however, despite the appearance of the leaders the Suffragettes failed to convince voters in Haverfordwest to vote against the Liberal Candidate who easily won the by-election.
