Members of the Tax Resistance League campaigning in Southend-on-Sea, possibly during the South East Essex by-election, in March 1912. The image shows the Suffragettes travelling through the streets in an open horse and carriage decorated with Suffrage Atelier designed posters bearing the slogan of the Tax Resistance League 'No vote no tax.' The TRL conducted a campaign of organised resistance to taxation, arguing that women should not have to pay tax until they were given the vote and could have a say in how the taxes were spent.
