Suffragette Riot at Buckingham Palace
Suffragette riot at the Constitution Hill gate of Buckingham Palace, 21st May 1914. Abandoning all hopes of any parliamentary progress on women's suffrage, the WSPU announced they would personally petition King George V at Buckingham Palace. The King's refusal to receive the Suffragette deputation resulted in a fierce struggle between the women and the police. Sixty six women, including Emmeline Pankhurst, and two men were arrested outside the Palace gates.
