Emmeline Pankhurst and Dr Elizabeth Garrett Anderson heading a deputation
Emmeline Pankhurst and Dr Elizabeth Garrett Anderson standing outside the Houses of Parliament surrounded by a strong police presence. The women were heading an attempted deputation to the Prime minister on 18th November 1910. The deputation stood on the steps of the St Stephen's entrance to the House of Commons from 1.30pm and 3.30pm until conducted inside to be told them the Prime Minister would not receive them. The situation quickly deteriorated and the ensuing brutal struggle between the police and outraged Suffragettes gathered outside Parliament became known as Black Friday.
