Glasgow Suffragettes on their Release from Holloway Prison, 1912
Glasgow Suffragettes on their release from Holloway Prison, 1912. The Suffragettes identified as Helen Crawfurd, Janet Barrowman, Margaret McPhun, Mrs A A Wilson, Frances McPhun, Nancy A John and Annie Swan had all travelled to London in March 1912 to take part in the WSPU window smashing campaign. These seven, along with two other Scottish Suffragettes who had travelled with them were arrested, charged and imprisoned for the damage they had inflicted on property. Helen Crawfurd served a term of one month's imprisonment in Holloway for breaking a window at the London home of the Liberal Minister of Education. The McPhun sisters were arrested under the alias 'Campbell'. This image was taken when seven of the nine released prisoners returned to Scotland to be feted by the WSPU Glasgow branch.
