Suffragette speakers addressing a crowd in an open, public meeting, 7th October 1911.The image refers to a procession and rally held in the pouring rain, organised by the Women's Social and Political Union on behalf of the Tax Resistance League in protest against the imprisonment of Clemence Housman for non-payment of her tax. The procession travelled from Kingsway to Holloway Prison where speakers including Christabel Pankhurst addressed the crowd, as depicted in the photograph.
