Crime broadside printed with an account of the murder of a new-born infant by its young mother a domestic servant at her employer's home in the Strand. The account notes that the servant was discovered 'almost in the act' of murdering her baby by her employer and includes a woodcut engraving depicting 'Mrs. R' finding the servant in bed 'delivered of a child'. The servant was not, however, executed for this crime.
Broadsides recounting particularly gruesome and scandalous murders were printed throughout the trial of suspects at the Old Bailey and cheaply sold to newshungry Londoners. Primarily published by a small number of printers many of whom, such as Thomas Birt, James Catnach and James Pitts were based around the Seven Dials area of London the spelling and grammar was often poor and the details not always accurate.
