Suffragettes in their Summer 'Uniform' of White Dresses with Purple, White and Green Regalia, 1908
Suffragettes in their summer 'uniform' of white dresses with purple, white and green regalia, 1908. The regalia was first seen in public on Women's Sunday, 21st June 1908. The Votes for Women's newspaper urged suffragettes to wear the sash to all public events and gave instruction that 'the regalia will be worn over the right shoulder and will be fastened under the left arm'. It is likely this photograph depicts Suffragettes awaiting the release of Mary Leigh and Edith New from prison in August 1908.
