Procession to welcome the released Suffragette prisoner Patricia Woodlock, June 1909
Procession to welcome the released Suffragette prisoner Patricia Woodlock, June 1909.
Patricia is seen here sitting in a carriage drawn by a group of Suffragettes in their summer 'uniform' of white dresses with purple, white and green regalia.
Patricia Woodlock was arrested on March 30th 1909 whilst taking part in a deputation during the Eighth Women's Parliament organised by the Women's Social and Political Union. As a persistent offender of Suffragette militancy she was sentenced to three months' imprisonment. On her release from Holloway prison in June 1909 she was taken to a celebration breakfast at the Inns of Court Hotel in Holborn and an evening procession to Hyde Park followed by receptions in Manchester and Liverpool. It is possible this photograph depicts Patricia on her evening procession to Hyde Park.
