Women's Freedom League; Votes for Women; a Halt near Chichester
Photograph taken at a formal dinner. Handwritten on the back is ‘Edith How Martyn, Ex Inspector Jarvis, Flora Drummond, Suffragette Dinner 13 Oct 1936’. Edith How Martyn was a member of suffragette groups the Women’s Social and Political Union and the Women’s Freedom League. Flora Drummond was a leading member of the WSPU. On 29 June 1909, while leading a deputation to the Prime Minister, Asquith, Emmeline Pankhurst was arrested for striking Inspector Jarvis on the face twice.
In 1926 How Martyn founded the Suffragette Fellowship, to keep alive the memory of the suffragette campaign and its achievements. The organisation held occasional reunions.
