The Suffragette Barbara Ayrton dressed as Grace Darling, May 1909. The image depicts Barbara aboard a processional float promoting the Women's Exhibition held at Prince's Skating Rink, Knightsbridge from 13th-26th May.
This procession took place on the Saturday before the exhibition opened, and as this was also Lifeboat Saturday, Barbara Ayrton dressed in a fisher wife's costume as lifeboat heroin Grace Darling attracting much of the attention of the passers by.
