Printed Ephemera — 1905-1914
Photograph of Suffragette Adela Pankhurst
Photograph of Suffragette Adela Pankhurst. Adela was the youngest daughter of Richard and Emmeline Pankhurst. She worked for the Women’s Social and Political Union from 1905 until 1912 when ill health and a dislike of the militant tactics that were being employed by women across the country forced her to resign. She emigrated to Australia in 1914 where she joined the Women’s Political Association in Melbourne and later the Victorian Socialist Party and married socialist Tom Walsh. In 1929 she founded the Australian Women’s Guild of Empire and in 1940 established the People’s Guild.
