Printed Ephemera — 1907-1914
But surely my good woman don't you yearn for something?
'But surely my good woman don't you yearn for something?', commercially produced picture postcard satirising the Suffragette movement. The postcard highlights the criticism by anti-suffragists that the suffrage campaign was essentially a middle class movement with little relevance to the working class. Here the suffragettes are typically depicted wearing hats and clothing that imply masculinity and spinsterhood.
