Printed Ephemera — 1912
We Fight For Our Rights. W.S.P.U.
Postcard commercially produced by the Women's Social and Political Union printed with the Sylvia Pankhurst designed logo of a purple, white and green trumpeting angel. Such postcards would have been sold through the WSPU shops to raise funds and promote the Suffragette message. Surrounding the logo is a hand drawn and coloured garland and ribbon captioned 'We Fight For Our Rights WSPU' presumably added by the sender. The postcard includes a handwritten message to Minnie Turner. Dated East Grinstead September 3rd 1912 the message reads 'Please expect me on 23rd or 24th. I hope to be able to stay for three weeks. Thank you for letter Yours C J A.
The Suffragette Minnie Turner was a member of the Tax Resistance League. She ran her home at Sea View, Victoria Road, Brighton as a boarding house specifically aimed at Suffragettes. Advertising in suffrage newspapers such as Votes for Women she urged ‘Suffragettes spend your holidays in Brighton, central. Terms moderate.’ The unknown sender of this postcard had obviously taken up Minnie's offer of a pleasant holiday on the south coast.
