Who Said 'Rats'
Commercial picture postcard published as part of the Woman Suffrage Series by ETW Dennis & Sons, Limited, Scarborough in 1907. The series which was part of the larger Dainty Series of picture postcards produced by the firm featured studio portraits of the same young female child representing a militant Suffragette in various scenarios. This postcard captioned 'Who Said Rats' features the child, wearing glasses seated before a table on which is a copy of the Daily Mail.
The postcard was sent from W Fox in Clifton, Bristol to May Pethick in December 1907 whilst she was staying in Rome with her sister Dorothy. The postcard is addressed to May c/o the travel agent Thomas Cook in Rome. May and Dorothy Pethick were sisters of the Suffragette leader Emmeline Pethick Lawrence.
