Women's Tax Resistance League, Mrs Kineton Parkes

This demonstration, which took place on Bastille Day, was organised by suffragettes Sylvia Pankhurst and Flora Drummond, and was attended by a number of suffrage organisations and the Independent Labour Party.
Margaret Anne Kineton Parkes (c.1865-1920) was a member of suffrage organisation the Women's Freedom League, and became secretary of the Tax Resistance League in 1909. The TRL conducted a campaign of organised resistance to taxation, arguing that women should not have to pay tax until they were given the vote and could have a say in how the taxes were spent.
