Printed Ephemera — 1914-04
Postcard, photographic postcard
Postcard with photograph stuck to it of four women associated with the suffragette movement standing on the steps of Sea View boarding house in Victoria Road, Brighton. They hold flags, probably in the Women’s Social and Political Union colours of purple, white and green. Handwritten at the top is 'April 1914 Taken by ...' (the rest is smudged and illegible).
Sea View was Minnie Turner's home, which she ran as a boarding house specifically aimed at suffragettes. She is probably the woman standing at the back in the doorway. Advertising in suffrage newspapers such as 'Votes for Women' she urged ‘Suffragettes spend your holidays in Brighton, central. Terms moderate.’ Turner was also a member of the WSPU and of the Tax Resistance League.
