Miss Christabel Pankhurst

When this photograph was taken in September 1913, Christabel Pankhurst was in exile in France. In March 1912 a warrant was issued for Christabel's arrest on a charge of conspiracy to commit damage. She escaped to Paris from where she continued to run the Women's Social and Political Union and edit the new WSPU newspaper the 'Suffragette'. She did not return to England until the outbreak of World War I.
