Printed Ephemera — 1911
Postcard, photographic postcard
Postcard with photograph of suffragettes carrying a banner which reads 'Leicester, Always and always facing toward the Light, WSPU'. The Women's Social and Political Union was an organisation which campaigned for female suffrage between 1903 and 1914. It had branches throughout the country, including one in Leicester. It looks as if this procession is taking place in Leicester, as behind the women is the United Baptist Chapel known locally as the 'Pork Pie Chapel’, and to the right is a sign for department store Joseph Johnson.
