Printed Ephemera — 1911
Information Bureau, W.S.P.U.
Photographic postcard of the information bureau and record office, Womens Social and Political Union Headquarters, Clement's Inn, September 1911. On the reverse of the postcard the photographer ad publisher name has been crossed out in black ink. By 1910 the WSPU. employed 110 salaried staff. Together with an army of volunteers they organised large demonstrations, meetings and processions and produced campaign and propaganda material.
Standing at the back of the office, by the door is Isabel Seymour. Between 1906 and 1909 Isabel was employed as a salaried Hospitality Secretary in the Information Bureau organising accommodation for country members when they came to London to take part in protests and deputations. By 1913 she was Prisoners' Secretary supporting WSPU prisoners and organising bail for arrested members, an extremely busy and crucial role with prolific offenders being repeatedly arrested by this late stage of the campaign.
