Miss Inez Milholland, Herald
Inez Milholland (1886-1916) leading the suffrage parade which she helped to organize in Washington DC on 3 March 1913, the day before President Woodrow Wilson’s inauguration. She wears a crown and cape and rides a white horse. Beneath is printed 'Miss Inez Milholland, Herald'.
Milholland was the daughter of a wealthy American. As an adolescent, she attended school in England. She later studied at Vassar College in New York, and during a trip to the family’s London home, she participated in Women’s Social and Political Union demonstrations. This inspired her to continue to campaign for women’s suffrage on her return to the US.
